- Who is Skywell?
Skywell, LLC is an innovative company based in Santa Monica, California. The Company started with a simple goal: To change how the world thinks about drinking water. Our first step was an examination of drinking water solutions; this led us to develop the Skywell, which takes our planet’s most plentiful resource—the air around us—condenses and filters it, and creates one of our most precious resources: pure, clean drinking water. We call it air water.
Skywell is committed to making a positive impact on our world’s water crisis. We’re empowering people to control their own water supply—and in the process, to act in a socially responsible manner regarding the Earth’s waning supply of clean drinking water.

The Skywell journey started when its founder recognized the potential to advance existing technologies as a way to create clean drinking water. As a result, Skywell was born in 2011.

- What does the Skywell do?
The Skywell makes clean, fresh water from the air, eliminating the need for plastic bottles, delivery trucks, and filtration systems under your sink. It’s self-contained; just plug it in.
- How does it do it?
There is more moisture in the air around us than in all of the rivers and streams on the planet combined. The Skywell takes in this ambient air and collects moisture through the condensation process; it then meticulously filters the collected water through a proprietary process to remove bacteria and contaminants. - How does the Skywell ensure purity in the drinking water it produces?
The Skywell employs a wide range of advanced purification technologies. First, the ambient air is meticulously filtered through a state-of-the-art electro-static air filter. Once the moisture is extracted from the air, the resultant water travels through a first-in-class water filtration network, UV sterilization stations, and ozone processes to ensure the cleanest freshest tasting water in every pour.
- Is the Skywell patented?
Skywell holds patents covering many of the basic functions of the Skywell, and a patent (pending) covering its self-cleaning technology, high-definition touch screen, and heating and cooling systems.
- How does the Skywell differ from other atmospheric water generators?
The Skywell brings a new level of sophistication and technology to the atmospheric water generation space. In addition to its sleek, modern design, the Skywell offers unique, interior self-cleaning capabilities; the hottest and coldest water available from any self-contained water-dispensing system; and the Skywell Hydration App, displayed on an interactive, 8” high-definition touch screen, that allows users to dynamically engage in the drinking water experience. - Where is the Skywell produced?
The Skywell was designed in the United States and Canada and is manufactured in China.
- Is this the first time in history that man has collected water this way?
Water has been collected from the air for at least 2,000 years by civilizations around the world. Air wells have been used throughout history, first in Middle Eastern deserts and later in Europe. The Incas sustained their culture above the rain line by collecting dew and channeling it into cisterns for later distribution. Of course, these ancient systems had no formal way of filtering or purifying the water.
Now, fast forward to the 1900’s, during which man invented the refrigerator, the air conditioner, and the dehumidifier—all of which use the basic principles of the Water Cycle. These appliances take in air, then cool it. In a similar fashion, the Skywell takes in ambient air, then cools and condenses it, which creates water. But rather than discarding this water (as do the refrigerator, air conditioner and dehumidifier) the Skywell collects it.
- How long does it take the Skywell to make water?
The Skywell’s water-production capability depends on the prevailing conditions in the air around it; consequently, it makes water more efficiently in a more humid environment. In our Santa Monica office, the Skywell produces approximately 5 gallons of clean drinking water in a 24-hour period.
- Will the Skywell work anywhere?
Yes, assuming sufficient ambient conditions. The current Skywell, however, was designed for an indoor environment.
- Does the Skywell make noise while operating?
The Skywell emits a low level of white noise while operating, but can operate at a variety of production levels and schedules to fit your water needs and work environment.
- What water temperatures will the Skywell produce?
The Skywell makes both cold water (programmable down to approximately 37 degrees Fahrenheit) and hot water (programmable up to approximately 203 degrees Fahrenheit), with separate controls for each.
- Is the Skywell difficult to install?
There’s no installation required; just plug it into a standard electrical outlet. It doesn’t require plumbing or water lines.
- Can I move it from one room to another?
Yes. The Skywell’s four wheels enable you to move it to any location with access to a standard power outlet. When you’ve found the right location, the stabilizer holds the unit securely in place.
- What happens when the Skywell’s water tank is full?
The Skywell’s internal computer will detect that the tank is full and will terminate water-generation until user consumption causes the water level to fall—at which time water generation will resume.
- Can I program the Skywell to maximize energy efficiency and usage?
Yes, you can create a custom operating schedule for the Skywell. These flexible settings enable the Skywell to run at peak efficiency based on your company’s water needs. Learn more in the How it Thinks section.
- Can the Skywell be programmed to display our company name and logo on the interactive screen?
Yes. 4 screens can be accessed via laptop for custom branding.
- How much money can I save with the Skywell?
The answer will vary depending on your current source of drinking water; but compared to many of the existing alternatives, the Skywell represents significant cost savings over time.
- What is the energy cost associated with the Skywell?
The energy cost depends on factors such as your local electricity market and your daily water consumption. Based on average office usage in the Los Angeles area, the Skywell requires between 7-9 kilowatts per day, which at approximately 14 cents per kilowatt equates to about $0.24-$0.31 per gallon.
- Is there a solar-powered version?
Not at this time. However, we are currently exploring solar development and expect to offer a solar-powered unit as part of the Skywell suite of products in the near future.
- What are the Skywell’s power requirements?
The Skywell operates on standard 110V power in the United States and Canada.
- How do I order a Skywell?

The Skywell is currently available in the U.S., China, Taiwan and Vietnam.
- Do I need to perform any self-service on the Skywell?
The Skywell operates best with clean air and water filters. It is recommended that the air filter be cleaned every 30 days, and the water filters replaced every 9 months. Maintaining a clean air filter is simple; instructions are provided and no training is required.
- Is there a warranty? If so, how long is it, and how does it work?
There is a one-year warranty for the unit and a five-year warranty for the compressor.
- How does the Skywell’s environmental impact compare to those of other popular methods of obtaining drinking water?
The Skywell creates water with minimal environmental impact (see Energy Usage and Costs section above for more information on electricity requirements). It does so without the pollution created by water-delivery trucks, the fossil fuels needed to run those trucks, or the energy to produce the plastic single-serve or 5-gallon water bottles. It doesn’t add to the global problem of billions of plastic bottles littering our landscape and harming animals and sea life. - Does air pollution or second-hand smoke affect the quality of the water?
No. The Skywell’s proprietary multi-stage filtration system eliminates these and other airborne materials.
